Sawai Pays $1bn for Generics Biz of Upsher-Smith

Acquisition marks a major expansion of Sawai's presence in the U.S. market

Leading Japanese generics firm, Sawai Pharmaceutical, has purchased the generic pharmaceuticals business of Upsher-Smith from its parent ACOVA for $1.05 billion. Minnesota-based Upsher-Smith is a privately held pharmaceutical company, owned by the Evenstad family through their company, ACOVA.
